Informationen

„The Mass“ was the last temporary exhibition curated by Konstantin Bayer at the gallery ‚Island 6 Shack‘, in Shanghai. Therefore, he decided to create a retrospective on all the previous exhibitions he had created, as well as his own artistic work. He exhibited both old and new works from artists such as Daniel Caleb Thompson, Enrico Freitag, Caucasso Lee Jun, Tillmann Porschütz, Julia Scorna, Lars Wild and himself. For more than half a year he presented both unconventional and more traditional exhibitions, showcasing international and chinese artists. But of course every experience must come to an end and there were many new projects waiting at the Galerie Eigenheim in his hometown, Weimar. The exhibition at Island 6 Shack was a chance to create some sense of order within disorder and to give new life to a small art venue in Shanghai. The exhibition consisted of 7 artists‘ work on 16 square metres and included installation works, paintings, photography, sculpture, sound and video works. The exhibition featured artworks predominantly from China, Germany and America. This project officially concluded Konstantin
Bayer‘s time as artistic director at Island 6 Shack. The gallery produced 6 exhibitions during the last half of the year, as part of Konstantin‘s one year student exchange program. The Island 6 Shack is now under the artistic direction of Alejandra Pinggera. To celebrate this there was an event held on the 8th and 9th of February at Moganshan Rd, Shanghai. Performing artists at this event were Caucasso Lee Jun and K.Bayer.
The opening ceremony was held on the 23rd of January, 2009 (with music by Thomas Arthur Bligh Pryle).
